Galena is a general term to describe the most Southern area of Reno close to Mount Rose Highway. Without question, South Reno’s Galena area is considered one of the most desirable (and therefore higher priced) in the entire region. You can look around many areas – but you will find the South Reno quadrant bordering Mount Rose to be where most folks who want to spend in the upper quartile end up consistently.

Mount Rose is the most common connector between Reno and Lake Tahoe, and the highway on which Mount Rose Ski Resort is located. Mount Rose Ski Resort is the most heavily used local ski resort with Reno residents. You can easily go from your front door to on the slope at Mount Rose in under 30 minutes. The resort has two high speed “six pack” lifts to haul you up the mountain in under 5 minutes. Mount Rose ski resort has great snow as it has a base of close to 9,000 feet altitude. Just past Mount Rose are other world-class ski resorts including Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, and Heavenly — all incredibly close to the Galena area of Reno.

The area is known often by the giant rock “G” on the hillside behind Galena High School. Galena is an affluent high school serving South Reno communities. A satellite campus for both the University of Nevada – Reno and Truckee Meadows Community College is being constructed right on Mount Rose Highway. Also, Saint Mary’s Hospital operates a satellite set of offices in the area. Finally – huge new Sierra Summit Mall featuring Dillards, Abercrombie, Hollister, Coach, Williams Sonoma and many other top stores opened to serve the area recently.

Monte Rosa On a hill overlooking and bordering Mount Rose Highway is this new home development with an original flare and planned museum area. An unusual concept worth a look 775-853-0866
Rolling Hills Mid-priced area for Galena with tract homes built in the late 1990′s from around $600k. Many young, professional families live in the area.
Saint James Place Very high priced custom, gated area located deep in the trees. Expect a long drive from the highway. This area is known for beautiful homes – many trees — and a lot of snow in winter. Homes and lots generally $1m and up.
Montreux Reno’s top development and home of the annual Reno / Tahoe Open PGA golf tournament every summer. Super high priced custom homes in this gated development, but some just “very” high priced tract homes and condos now being added. Very prestigious area. Now selling” The Chalets at Montreux” semi-custom with lot/home packages from $1.5M and a model home to view 775-849-9444.
Saddlehorn Custom home community located closer to services such as Chevron Galena Market and Raley’s grocery store. Beautiful homes, but a range from $600k to over $2M. Homes have been constructed over 20 years, and some lots are still available for your construction plans. Known for tight design restrictions and reviews on homes.
Callahan Ranch Beautiful area butting up to Montreux (see above) and the pine tree line. Approximately split 50% custom homes; 10% older, less expensive homes; and now 40% by a local builder — The Estates at Mount Rose.

Galena is known for its mature pine forests, where were logged many years ago, but remain at the foothill of Mount Rose. Homes in the Galena area range from the low $600′s to the $1-3 million.
